Description of Our CommunityZamosc is localised in the southeastern part of Poland on the edge of geographical region Lublin Upland. It has got about 68 thousand inhabitants. Zamosc is 424 years old town. Jan Zamoyski – the Great Crown Chancellor and the Great Crown Hetman was the founder of the town. He was not only rich but also a multi-talented and well-educated man.
Thanks to him and his Italian friend Bernardo Morando our town came into being. Modeled on Italian theories of the 'ideal city' and built by the architect Bernando Morando Zamosc is a perfect example of a late-16th- century Renaissance town. It has retained its original layout and fortifications and a large number of buildings that combine Italian and central European architectural traditions. The historical center of the town named ‘Old City’ was inscribed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO in 1992.
There are many historical places, beautiful buildings, monuments, churches and museums. Many nations lived in Zamosc including Poles, Jews, Germans, Dutchmen, Hungarians, Greeks, Armenians, Turks, Scots and Italians. The history of the town is so interesting and dramatic as the history of our country Poland. Every step along Zamosc ‘Old City’ is a step in the history of this town.
Mr Marcin Zamoyski is the mayor of Zamosc. He is the descendant of the founder of our town - Jan Zamoyski. It seems a very rare, amazing and interesting fact for our friends in the whole world because undoubtedly, there are few cities in the world, which can pride them on such long family tradition. The history of the town has a great meaning for citizens. The charm of Zamosc ‘Old City’ attracts many tourists.2.
Summary of Our ProjectThe project describes the history of foundation our town, the idea of the ‘ideal city’. A group of youths search the trace of the history of the town and the traces of many nations that were living in the town a long time ago.
Wypadki
The traces of history appear not so clear as we first expected. Some of the buildings, monuments and churches were changed very much and some of them do not exist now. We could find them as models in museums or pictures in the historical books. We have confirmed our discoveries and our admiration for the monuments’ beauty and amazing historical landmarks by a lot of photos and pictures made by the students.
We describe the history of people, too. Especially, some interesting stories that are connected with the Zamoyski’s family. The project describes a lot of stories about the founder of the town and his descendants. Zamosc was a powerful fortress. The project displays many elements of the fortifications and tells their stories (sieges, uprisings, wars, rebuilding, destruction and renovation some of them).3.
Our Computer and Internet Access A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:21-50%B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connectionD.
Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-64. Problems We Had To OvercomeWe decided to enter CyberFair in October 2003.
It was the first registration in the Polish Edition of CyberFair. The decision was difficult because we decided to make entire project ourselves. It means that we would like to research and translate collected materials from Polish into English and finally design all web pages and presentations. The first problem was with the coordination of the teachers and the students, since they are from different classes and all have different timetable.
The large difficulty appeared because of the fact that none of school computers have a CD recorder. There were some difficulties with an interchange of large files. We could make it only with our home computers. Our school scanner is not the best.
It appeared that digital camera is necessary but it is too expensive and the budget of our school is very limited. The teacher, leading the whole project decided to buy herself a digital camera with a little help of a professional photographer.
The next problem, which appeared, was the young translators. Supervised by teachers of English three groups of pupils began to translate texts. However, some of young translators did not meet the deadlines.
Some of them had the fit of the flu. Fortunately, the leader of the translator group helped us, all the times translating the texts we need. There were also some failures as a breakdown of our school server (there was a problem with viruses and another trouble with the UPS), the damages of the hard disk drive one of webmaster. The difficulty also was when the enthusiasm of some of the translators and researches decreased. In spite of the difficulties some helper always appeared and the situation became more optimistic. Thanks to many helpful students, teachers and goodwill men we were able to finish our project.5. Our Project Sound Bite‘Be the beloved fatherland support’.
These are the words of the founder of our town Jan Zamoyski. This statement corresponded with an idea of the foundation of Zamosc Academy. We would like these words serve as a motto for our students in the future work for the local community as well for the fatherland.

The History is ‘the teacher of the life’, it is a very important idea, but Information Technology and language skills are necessary today all over the world.6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards? Our project has corresponded to the requirements of certain subjects but also surpassed the curriculum of history, society’s science, English and IT. Our students researched historical texts and learned a lot about the history and monuments of our town. They researched two museums, the cathedral, but also conducted a few interviews.
Translating of historical texts was an exercise, which surpassed the curriculum of English. Creating web pages, animations and presentations required from our students deeper knowledge of IT skills. The students researching the historical materials worked in a group likewise their friends who translated some Polish texts into English. There was a team of the researchers and webmasters cooperating with the young painters’ team and with the groups of young translators. Some students worked in both teams, for example as a researchers and translators or researchers and painters.
Such exercises integrated a few subjects. Each team used the Internet. We analyzed many previous CyberFair projects and these projects inspired us. Using the Internet is surely more effective than using traditional methods, since the Internet is an effective tool for research.1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project? To complete our Cyber Fair Project we used: a.) 9 PC Celeron 433 MHz computers in the computer lab, b.) personal computers in teachers and students’ home, c.) printers, d.) digital camera, e.) scanner, f.) telephones, g.) libraries (school and museum), h.) books, i.) the Internet, j.) museums k.) oral interviews. These tools helped us research our topics and present them in quality ways.
Most of our tools were available to us here at school. Our most valuable tools were the computers, digital camera, museums, the Internet and interviews.
