.In mid-August 1943 a unit of the (English: Striking Cadre Battalions, UBK), which was controlled by the right-wing organization, organized armed attack on villages in the area of (now: Pisz). The attack was made as revenge for German genocide and atrocities committed against Polish population. The targets of the attack included devoted Nazis, members of NSDAP and inhabitants engaging in brutality against Polish population. According to Polish sources, some 70 Germans were killed and 40 German farms were razed to the ground, while an eyewitness reports 13 killed people, including a woman and two children, and two people wounded. The attack, commanded by Colonel, was a revenge for German atrocities, committed in. The revenge attack caused shock among Prussian Germans and caused them to rethink their genocidal tactics against Polish population.

Hamlet returns to his remarkably minimalistic palace in Denmark and finds out his father is dead and his uncle Claudius has married his mother Gertrude. His father's ghost appears, and tells Hamlet to avenge him forthwith. Hamlet stages a play to confirm Claudius' guilt and his mother's compliance, but then inadvertently kills his girlfriend Ophelia's father, Polonius.

This drives her insane, while her brother Laertes sets out to avenge his father's death. In a climactic swordfight, Claudius tries to poison Hamlet with Laertes' sword and a poisoned cup. Gertrude takes the poison cup out of guilt, while Hamlet realizes Laertes' sword is poisoned. Produced in German for German television, this production of Hamlet becomes distinctly eerie when dubbed back into English.

The production design is also 'German Minimalist', typical of that era, making the movie rather bleak, even for Hamlet. Despite the virtually non-existent sets and English-German-English translation, Maximilian Schell turns in an admirable performance as Hamlet. This film was screened on Mystery Science Theater 3000.
